Cornwall is an area of 3,559 square kilometres, situated in the far South West of the UK mainland. It boasts the longest (697 km) and one of the most spectacular coastlines in the whole British Isles. Nowhere in Cornwall are you more than 16 miles from the sea. It is a land of beauty, myth and legend with a history spanning over 6,000 years from Neolithic man to the world famous Eden Project. |

| This website has been created for the benefit of the millions of people who visit the county each year. (In 2008 there were around 4.4 million staying visitors and another 9.9 million day visitors - spending over £1.7 billion in the county. Over 53,000 people work in the Cornish tourism industry - 22% of the population*.) This website is not intended to be complete and, although it continues to grow (now well over 2000 pages), we intend to continue adding new information and removing what has become redundant for many years to come. During the last ten years this website has averaged over 6,250 visitors per month (see our web statistics). Up to the end of December 2012, we have had over 735 thousand visitors, from more than 100 different countries across all 5 inhabited continents. | Tourism Awards for Cornwall 2010 Cornwall took first place in the Favourite UK Country Escape in the Sunday Times Travel Magazine’s Reader Awards 2010. Cornwall is officially the most scenic county in Britain, taking 65% of the vote in a survey commissioned by TV channel Blighty. A Which? Holiday survey put Newquay (6th) and St Ives (8th) into the top ten favourite seaside towns. 2011 In 2011 three Cornish resorts were in the top 10 British Resorts in the TripAdvisor Awards - First place going to St Ives, Second place to Newquay and 8th place to Padstow. Five of the 15 Nivea Sun best family beach awards have gone to Cornish beaches - Gold Award: Gyllyngvase, Silver Award: Harlyn Bay, Bronze Awards: Sennen Cove, Portreath and Kennack Sands. At the British Travel Awards 2011 Cornwall was voted the Best UK Holiday County or Region for the third year running, St Ives was voted the Best UK Seaside Town for the second year running and the Eden Project won gold for the Best UK Leisure Attraction. 2012 The section of the South West Coast Path between Tintagel and Crackington Haven was voted Number 1 in a poll of Britain’s top 50 walks. Cornwall is officially the top UK holiday destination for those aged 50 and over in the first 50+ Awards 2012. (York was second and London was third.) 211,465 votes were cast across 53 categories. |
