BEACON COVE

Although lying between Mawgan Porth and Watergate Bay this beach is very quiet; probably because it is not so easy to get to.
In the winter of 1846 a ship's boat drifted ashore here. In the boat were the bodies of ten men, all frozen to death. They are buried in St Mawgan churchyard, the memorial tablet being shaped like a boat's transom. There is also an old mine shaft on the cliff edge. Just to the north of Beacon Cove, at Griffin Point, is an Iron Age fort with two ramparts and ditches.

Access
Very difficult. You can get to Beacon Cove from Trevarrian via a footpath down the valley. There is a precariously winding path to be negotiated down the cliff face to the beach.
